The gold-digging artel "Vostok" since 1997 till present time carries on prospecting works for platinoid-containing copper-nickel ore, (Nyandomy deposit), within the borders of Lantarsky gabbro-anorthosite massif. The massif in question is located in an axial (central) part of Djougdjour mountain ridge, on the coast of the Okhotsky Sea, between the two administrative communities of the Khabarovsk Territory - Chumican and Ayan. The prospecting site itself is located in 60 km from Ayan.
The discovered ore manifestations are mostly pyrrotine-mineralized,
dissiminated, brecciated, in massive deposits. Beside pyrrotine,
the ore contains also 3-5% of chalcopyrite, pentlandite and pyrite.
The minerals of platinum group are presented with moncheite,
sperrylite, platinum-palladium telluride.
Dissiminated chalco-pyrrotite mineralization with the massive ore lenses was
monitored by geological, geochemical and geophysical methods along the massif'
endocontact (external contact) for about 8 km. It was exposed by excavations
and unit holes on a site portion with the total length more than 2 km.
The parameters of sulphide copper-nickel mineralization, containing minerals
of platinum group, were rather closely studied only within limits of separate
local ore manifestations. The rest of the territory demands to be further studied
by means of mining and drilling operations.
As results of furrow testing and core assay show, the content of useful
components in ores by is as follows: copper - 0,1-3,4 %; nickel - 0,1-0,74 %;
cobalt - up to 0,17 %; platinum - 0,1-2,1 %; palladium - 0,2-5,8 %,
rhodium - up to 0,85 %, iridium - up to 0,48 %;
gold - up to 1,8 %. On the surface the ores are strongly weathered.
The analysis of a geological structure and estimation of the probable resources
of a sulphide-mineralized zone for copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium
and gold make it possible to speak about probability of a big deposit discovery,
of a "Stillwater" type to all appearance.
There are a number of other sulphide mineralization manifestations within
the borders of the same Lantarsky gabbro-anorthosite massif. They make
a 50-km long "chain" and in 2002 geological and geophysical prospecting
is planned to be carried on those sites.
The chosen sites of the massif deserve also that survey and evaluating works should
be done there, as well as exploration, in the nearest possible future.
Regarding the scale of the deposit, the artel does not have enough means for the
that kind of works, therefore we are eager to consider mutually advantageous
cooperation with the interested Russian and foreign companies.
